If you're under 25, expect to pay a young driver surcharge of $15–$30 per day with most agencies. Drivers under 21 generally cannot rent cars at all in Chile. How do I pay for toll roads in Chile, and is the electronic tag worth it?

Chile's Autopista Central around Santiago uses electronic tolling (free-flow, no toll booths). You'll need a TelePASE device (rented at ~$3/day or purchased for ~$7) to avoid a 30% surcharge on toll rates, which run 1,100–2,200 CLP (~$1.30–$2.70) per segment.
